The architectural concept focuses to the full integration of the new building in the landscape, while uses bioclimatic design methods and principles.

The complex is oriented towards the East, and uses the natural terrain with an imaginative and functional way. The building is placed diagonally on the slope, obtaining as a result, the disappearing of the building volumes while approaching the complex from the South. This is made possible due to the fact that their roofs are planted with the on site vegetation, becoming this way, a natural continuation of the earth surface of the plot. The planted roofs, not only contribute to the total integration of the building with the natural environment using the latest technologies for this undertaking, but also provide the building with great insulating advantages resulting in a considerable reduction of energy consumption throughout the year.

The complex consists of two distinct houses with underground storage. The buildings are of one storey height and are decomposed in four smaller volumes which are connected together by pergola covered areas.

Each residence has a private shallow pool of 50 m2 and 70 m2 respectively. This water element, apart of its aesthetical role, contributes to the natural cooling of the residences.

Local bare stone is used for the buildings and for all landscape structuring walls, while all terraces have earth colored cement mortar as floor finishing.

All materials used, respect the traditional aspect of constructions in the island of Serifos, such as the abovementioned local stone, wooden and colored window and door fixtures, pergolas, solid steel elements, earth-colored cement mortar for the floors, as well as the use of local vegetation for the landscaping.

In conclusion, the small building volumes, the total integration with the natural terrain, the use of stone, the planted roofs and all other materials used, result in a traditional building composition encountered in Serifos where buildings, retaining and boundary walls are presented as a unity and are incorporated to the natural landscape.
